Are you interested in learning how to paint outside in nature? June 22, 9AM to 3PM, Susan Nicholas-Gephart will be teaching "Studio to Plein Air" at Rhoneymeade.
Discover how to see beyond the obvious within the landscape, and use expressive color to capture the essence of mood and atmosphere in sky, water, and more. Whether you work in pastel, oil, or both mediums, you will learn to see the depth of color and create a unique and personally expressive painting.
Skilled in both pastel and oil, Susan is a seasoned plein air and studio painter that will lead you to your personal color expression in the medium of your choice. The morning will begin with a short demo and a “Hands-on” focusing on methods that will aid in color expression.
The use of underpainting and color mixing will be explored in both pastel and oil. “Thumbnail Sketches” and their importance in supporting strong compositions and values within color, will help you “Target Focus” on what inspires you in the landscape. There will be personal time at your easel following the morning demo, with support and attention given at each artist’s easel. I welcome the beginner and create an atmosphere in which they can flourish and "Fear No Art"!

With the wonderful art, inspiring nature and surrounding landscape of Rhoneymeade as your subject learn how to create monoprints in a one day workshop. Instructor Ingrid Booz Morejohn will guide you through the process of gathering images, teach you how to distill them into shapes, moods and textures and then how to create final designs which will be interpreted through the medium of gelatin plate monoprinting. “Gelli plate printing” is an easy to learn process resulting in highly tactile and layered prints. Acrylic paint is used and colors can be vibrant or muted depending on your
personal palette. Each student will come away with a knowledge of how to use the gelatin plate method as well as a number of finished prints or printed papers that can be used in collages or
other mixed media works.

ENJOY A BEAUTIFUL EVENING AT OUR FARM AND GARDEN
Activities begin at 6pm when we plant three new heritage apple varieties in the orchard, followed by a special screening of THE PERMACULTURE ORCHARD movie at 7pm. Cider and snacks provided.
“The Permaculture Orchard : Beyond Organic is a feature-length educational film that will teach you how to set up your own permaculture orchard at any scale. We recognize the limitations of the organic model as a substitute to conventional fruit growing, and want to propose a more holistic, regenerative approach based on permaculture principles. Based on 20 years of applied theory and trial and error, biologist and educator Stefan Sobkowiak shares his experience transforming a conventional apple orchard into an abundance of biodiversity that virtually takes care of itself. The concepts, techniques and tips presented in this film will help you with your own project, whether it is just a few fruit trees in your urban backyard, or a full-scale multi-acre commercial orchard.
Trained as a biologist and landscape architect, Sobkowiak has taught fruit production, landscape plants and design, and natural history of vertebrates at Montreal’s McGill University. He’s been teaching permaculture since 1995.”
